THIS week, the plight of people living with disabilities has been in the limelight because of the alleged refusal by Katete Secondary School in Eastern Province to admit three pupils who are physically challenged.
While the facts which led to the school administration to refuse to admit the three pupils are still unclear, there has been outcry from various stakeholders who are disappointed with the decision.
But there is a lesson for society from this episode and this is that very few public buildings ever provide facilities for people living with disabilities.
Take public schools for example. How many have appropriate ablution blocks or ramps for easy access for those in wheelchairs? This includes desks and other facilities to cater for pupils with disabilities.
